Video 5 [Artist Talk Series] "The Wait We Carry" | Technical Aspects

Today is Video 5 & Day 5 of this 10-Day Video Series and we’re diving into the Technical Aspects of “The Wait We Carry” and how I came up with the look and feel for the collection.

Again, it’s Clifton Henri, nationally-recognized, award-winning fine art photographer and I want you to picture your favorite photograph, a portrait specifically…

And imagine projecting that portrait on the side of a distressed building or structure.

See all of those textures and colors, graffiti and maybe even advertisements bleeding through the projected image - creating a visual symphony as the layers blend together.

Now cut out that entire blended wall, projection and all.

THAT is the aesthetic I was looking for.

I am a huge fan of color, texture, geometry, typography, old advertising and distressed architecture.

And, believe it or not, you’re actually looking at 3 photographs.

A triple exposure if you will…

Enamored with the idea of using photography as canvas I began searching through photographs of textures I’ve collected over my 20 years of being a photographer.

These textures are from all over the world but specifically all from places that made me feel at home. The textures and color palette felt familiar and warm and welcoming.

Chicago, New Orleans, Cuba & Ghana are just a few of the locations where I pulled textures from to become the Canvas for this series.

Because this series literally HITS home for me, I figured the first layer should actually BE home.
